Woody Guthrie Archives
SONG LYRICS, SONGS-3
Song texts found in oversized notebooks (Notebooks Series 2).
Total of 318 songs, in 9 Notebooks, housed in 4 Boxes.

Scope and Content:
Individual song texts, typed or written down by Woody Guthrie, or composed by Woody Guthrie but transcribed by others. These song texts have been pasted by Guthrie into oversized notebooks, or written directly onto their pages. These notebooks contain watercolor and other artwork, natural ephemera such as leaves, and notations by Guthrie. Authorship includes original songs by others or of unknown origin. The songs date from the mid-1930s through the mid-1950s. The Notebooks were compiled in the early-1950s. A song may have been assigned up to three Genre headings, although more may apply.

Collection Restrictions:
The majority of the song texts in Songs-3 carry Copyright restrictions; however, songs that are not copyrighted must undergo a copyrighting process before they may be removed from the Archives (in photocopied form) by researchers.

Arrangement Note:
The numbers immediately preceding the song title indicate their location within the Archives. Locations listed in Songs-2 and Songs-3 databases provide a notebook number, followed by page number(s) in parenthesis. [e.g. 2 (21) refers to Notebook 2, Page 21]. Any given song title may have more than one such listing in either of the Notebook series (regular or oversized).

Please Note:
Songs listed in Songs-3 may or may not be listed in the other two databases (Songs-1 and Songs-2) While many of the song titles have been duplicated in more than one database, some titles are unique to one database. Therefore, when searching for a song, all three sections should be consulted.
